Time to Update your Furniture?

As an Interior Designer, I love to create wonderful spaces. I do it all the time. Nothing brings me more pleasure than turning what was once a dated, uncomfortable room into a space that brings joy and happiness.

Trends from the Las Vegas Market: Spring 2024

Did you know that I travel to the Las Vegas Market the end of January and the end of July every year? It is when I get to the first looks at upcoming trends in the Interior Design world.
We have been seeing the change from gray to bold and intricate colors for the past year, however, the trends usually take a while to take hold in the Midwest!
Trends start in Europe and then hit the two coasts of the US before finally reaching us here in Minnesota. I like to know what is coming so I can start talking to my clients--making sure they are not outdated before we even get started!
The coming trends are filled with fun and personality.
Let me share some of the things I saw at market this year.

There is no better designer than nature ~Alexander McQueen

As we step into 2024, the world of interior design continues to evolve, offering fresh ideas and innovative concepts to transform living spaces into havens of style and comfort. I've shared a few trends lately and here are some more exciting trends I see shaping the interior design landscape this year:

Maximalism: Bold colors, intricate patterns, and eclectic decor characterize the maximalist trend of 2024. Embracing individuality and self-expression, maximalist interiors are vibrant, dynamic, and filled with personality, creating visually stimulating spaces that captivate the senses. The Colors are so much fun to see and allow for your personality to shine through.

Flexible Living Spaces: As the lines between work, leisure, and home life continue to blur, flexible living spaces that adapt to varying needs are in high demand. Multi-functional furniture, modular layouts, and convertible rooms offer versatility and functionality, allowing homeowners to optimize their living environments for different activities and occasions. There are some design aspects that can help -- let me show you how!

Curves Ahead: Curved sofas, chairs, and tables are becoming more prevalent in both residential and commercial spaces, adding a touch of sophistication and fluidity to interiors. These curves evoke the curves of nature: Sand Dunes, Waves, Shape of Trees and plants... It is a big departure from the oversized, overstuffed couches and chairs of yesteryear!

Your Home is Beautiful! Be sure it's Covered

So many of my clients have wonderful artwork, furniture, cabinetry and electronics and I think how devastating it would be if something were to happen like a fire or a flood. And to be honest, while I've carried insurance all of my life, I never felt like my insurance agent cared about me as a person or knew what was important to me.

Over my lifetime, I've had 12 Insurance Agents! Yes, 12. And one of them was my FATHER!

A couple of years ago, I met John Simeone. He is an absolutely amazing State Farm Insurance Agent (after a successful career on Broadway and in a well-known Soap Opera). He is my favorite of all of these agents (sorry dad). He has taken the time to explain why I need what I have and why I don't need things I thought I did.

His attention to detail and the way he cares about his clients is like nothing I've experienced.

As you look around your home, yes, perhaps there are some things that drive you insane. But ask yourself, "Am I covered for the replacement of everything if my home goes up in flames or the pipes freeze when I'm away and everything floods? Do I trust and KNOW my agent will be with me every step of the way in an emergency?"

Holiday Light Display Headache?

I remember working with a client a few years back and I commented on the beautiful holiday lights next door. My client was silent and nodded her head once without smiling.

As we continued our conversation about her design needs, I began to see that those beautiful lights were very bright. So bright, they lit up her bedroom, making additional lighting unnecessary.

I then peeked out the front window and noticed the steady stream of vehicles crawling by to admire the picturesque glow. Many a head turned toward my client's home, peering into her windows with curiosity.
